Hey guys I hope everyone is doing well. I am new to SEO world and I want to do local SEO for one of my clients. The issue is I do not know how to do Local SEO at all or where to even start. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me or give me an article or a course to learn how to do it.

@patin10 Hello, how are you, what happened to you was one of the changes that Google is making, especially for pages that have a lot of cannibalization, which is what I can realize could have happened to you or that they injected you with phishing and you didn't realize it. . I think you should start over and go hard at SEO in addition to debugging with disalow. Regards

I think you should first create google business profiles in your target locations, I know some business have "virtually addresses" or virtual offices just to create their local google business profile, proximity is the biggest factor in map results, and if you dont have a google business profile in your target area, its very unlikely that your website/business will show up in the map pack.
After that , as @designmediaUSA has suggested, just research how your competitors are doing and try to copy their strategy, You can check what are the top business in a specific area for your keyword using https://www.gmbradar.com/, It will show rankings of your business and also your top competitors, analyze your top competitors and create a local SEO strategy accordingly, I think it will give you a good starting point..

The first thing you have to do is to place information on the location on the website, and have the name of the city/region in the titles.
Then you will have to promote yourself in local groups. Facebook groups in the area, local sites and local registries.

I think what we did with https://practicebloom.com/ was a great idea. We were in the dumps completely and then we started running some very aggressive posting, like 10 times a day in Facebook, tik tok and other socials with a link back to our site, it pushed our traffic up from 50 to 500 hits a month and brought up all our keywords. I know it sounds off base, but it's a popularity contest with Google. Aggregate traffic is Key!

I'm not sure what but I feel like you might have a technical issue.
You got about 23k backlinks but they are all from 500 different IPs and 543 unique domains. So your backlinks are extremely suspicious.
You may want to check with the search console. You do not normally get penalized because of the backlinks but they may have removed the effects of those backlinks. So if you only rely on the backlinks as your ranking factor, you might not rank anymore and there is no easy way to tell if you didn't get penalized.

To stand out in the Local Map Pack, you are going to need to have a very well optimized profile. There are many articles, like this one https://coalitiontechnologies.com/blog/how-to-optimize-your-google-my-business-location, with tips on how to do that.
However, the Google My Business Profile mostly only helps you rank in the local area. If you have your physical store in New York, you can rank in the map pack for New York related queries, but not likely for other cities like Los Angeles.
Since you can deliver the products to other locations though, you could try utilizing the Service Areas feature to add in a list of cities the business serves. This may help to achieve what you are describing for some low competition search queries, however it doesn't guarantee that you will rank in the Local Map Pack for other cities since you don’t have a dedicated location there and more relevant and authoritative businesses in those cities will easily outrank you.
If it's not important necessarily what is ranking (organic search result or a map pack result), there is always the option to create several landing pages on the store’s website that are optimized for your desired local search terms (online clothing store in: los angeles, miami, atlanta, chicago, etc.)
Again, you’ll be competing with everyone else to get those top ranking positions, but that would be one way to try to get there. Good luck! -
Hello there! You've come to the right place. Local SEO hinges on the physical location of your business and its customers. If you have a physical store in NYC, you can work towards competing for visibility in Google's local packs for users and queries surrounding that city. If you have a physical location in LA, same story.
What you can't do is hope your NYC store will show up for users in LA. Local search doesn't work that way. Rather, you'd need to pursue organic rankings and paid advertising in markets where your business lacks a physical location.

Need Help - Lost 75% Of Traffic Since May 2018
Sorry to go in-depth here, but want to give all available information. We went live late April 2018 with our two websites in Shopify (moved from Magento, same admin, different storeviews...which we find later to cause some issues). Both of these websites sell close to the same products (we purchased a competitor about 5 years ago, which is why we have two). The nice thing is that they do almost identical amounts in sales. They have done very well for years, especially in the last two years. Well, the core algo update around May 22nd-24th 2018 happened and wiped out about 65% of our Google traffic for one website (MySupplementStore.com). And this latest update, wiped out another 20%. I couldn't figure out why this would have happened, because we were very cautious about keeping things separate, unique descriptions etc. So I did some digging and this is what I found: The reviews we migrated over from Magento somehow were combined and added to both websites. This is something I didn't notice. I had this resolved a month ago so that each site's reviews are now only on that website. Our blog section was duplicated across both websites during the migration. Again, something I didn't notice, as we have close to over 1,000 blog posts per site. This was resolved two weeks ago. As I was looking more, I found that the last 6 months, a person working for us (for 3 years), started writing descriptions and pasting them on both websites, instead of making them unique to each website. I trusted her for years, but I think she just got lazy. She quit about a month before the migration as well. We are currently working on this, but its been taking awhile because we have over 5,000 products on each site and have no idea which ones are duplicates. I did also notice: Site very slow when checking site speed tools. Working on that this week. When I take snippets of text or do searches, many times it shows up in omitted results. No messages in Google Webmaster Tools So the question is... Do you think it is the duplicate content issues that caused the drop? Our other site is Best Price Nutrition, which didn't see a big drop at all during that update. If not, any other ideas why?

Does removal of internal redirects(301) help in SEO
I am planning to completely remove 301 redirects manually by replacing such links with actual live pages/links. So there will be no redirects internally in the website. Will this boost our SEO efforts? Auto redirects will be there for incoming links to non-existing pages. Thanks, Satish

Is Building a Local Directory of Businesses on a Subdomain Good SEO?
Hello Fellow Moz'ers: I own a small digital shop in a major US city. We had a marketing idea which I'd like some input on the soundness of. We are creating a professional services directory of 'digital professional services providers' in our hometown. The directory's membership will only be open to firms located within our city limits. The directory will be curated and maintained, ongoing, by us. Our motivation is 75% selfish and 25% benevolent. The idea is that, by building the directory on our subdomain, we hopefully will collect links, which ultimately will enhance search visibility. But I'm concerned about the devaluation directories have incurred in recent years and I've even seen advice given to the effect that listings in some directories might be harmful to a site's link profile. It is not our intention to harm those who might list in our directory. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Website/SEO Audit Needed
We've been outsourcing our link building to India for the past 3 years and the results were pretty good up until beginning of this year. What they were essentially doing is putting links into directories, a few per month, and posting a few articles per month. Out of our top 10 keywords, 8 got into top 10. Then something happened around Jan 1 last year, our ranking started dropping, falling out of the top 50, before settling around 20-30ish. We disavowed most of the low quality links since then. Also, very odd, all the top ranking competitors all fell (including me) and were replaced by less "specialized" companies who sold a broad range of products (for example: all parts of the car, rather than someone who just focused on mufflers). Theres also other differences but again I can't put a finger on it. I'd like to find someone who can do a detailed audit of our site, and our competitors, what happened to cause the drop, and why the new top positions sites are ranked high. And I really don't have time to do an audit myself. Our site is American Hospitality Furniture dot com. Any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Please help me with your advice
Hi all, Couple years ago I started to build my business based on EMD domain. The intention was to create the source with the rich unique content. After a year of hard work the site achieved top 10 in Google and started to generate good amount of leads. Then Google announced the EMD Update and site lost the 90% of traffic (after Pandas updates our SERP was steady ) “ a new filter that tries to ensure that low-quality sites don’t rise high in Google’s search results simply because they have search terms in their domain names. ” But I don’t consider my site low-quality site, every page, every post is 100% unique and has been created only to share the knowledge with others… The site has EXCELLENT content from industry point of view.... Since the “ EMD Update “ I read hundreds , hundreds of different articles and opinions related to EMD update and finally I am confused and lost. What should I do… • Kill the site and start new one

Is DOCTYPE important for SEO?
Hello fellow Mozzers. I am just having a brief look at a potential clients website before speaking to them tomorrow and whilst looking at the source I noticed that they don't appear to have a clear definition for their Doctype. All the have at the top of each page is I have to admit that Doctypes aren't my strong point but I know that they are normally slightly more descriptive than this. Can this have any effect on rankings? or is this just an issue for W3C validation? Thanks 🙂

Breadcrumb Trail for SEO?
Due to the fact that we aren't in the #1 position, (dropped from #5 to page 2 - You have to love Devs and IT), our heads have hired a SEO Audit/Consultant company to review everything we are doing. I would like to post some of the things they are telling us to do, in which I don't 100% agree with and would like some other professional feedback.
